FACTS
A 14-year-old boy ran away from his father's home. The father, seeking his son's return, issued a pamphlet offering a reward of Rs 500 to anyone who found and brought the boy home. Harbhajan Lal, the plaintiff, located the boy at Bareilly railway station, took him to Dharamshala PS, and informed the defendant about the find via telegram. However, when it came time to provide the reward, the father claimed he did not receive any acceptance and therefore believed the offer was not accepted, thus denying any obligation to pay the reward.
ISSUES
Whether there existed a general offer on part of the Defendant?
Whether the Plaintiff fulfilled the terms of the contract?
JUDGMENT
The Allahabad High Court ruled that the offer in question was open to the public, allowing anyone to accept it. The court emphasized that fulfilling the specified conditions in the proposal signifies acceptance. Therefore, the plaintiff, by locating the boy and sending a telegram, fulfilled the conditions and is rightfully entitled to the reward.
